Mt Edgcumbe Country Park
If you are planning a stay at Polhawn Lookout, we highly recommend a visit to Mt Edgcumbe Country Park. This beautiful park is home to stunning gardens, quaint cafes, and even alpaca walks! Plus, there are local gift shops and Segway tours available for those who want a truly immersive experience.
Plymouth Boat Tours
Plymouth Boat Trips offer a range of cruises and tours to explore Plymouth's historic waterfront and surrounding areas. Calstock is a charming village on the banks of the River Tamar, while the Royal William Yard is a vibrant and historic waterfront location with stunning views across Plymouth Sound. The Cremyll Ferry and Cawsand Ferry offer scenic routes across the water, while the River Yealm is a peaceful and picturesque location for a leisurely stroll or picnic.

Rame Head Chapel
Walk - Rame Head Chapel 1.0 miles Rame Head car park - PL10 1LH Rame Head car park Easy - On a good coastal path and quiet lanes, with some short stretches of up and down. A high headland with a bird's-eye view of the coast for a long way in both directions, Rame Head has long been a lookout point. Celtic warriors built a rampart across the neck of the headland to defend it from possible attack, and medieval monks kept a light burning here to warn sailors of the rocks after St German established their chapel in the Dark Ages. This is a short loop around the headland, which is a great place for bird-spotting, especially in autumn, when hobbies, merlins, peregrines, hen and marsh harriers and short-eared owls have all been seen passing through. On a day with good visibility you should be able to see Eddystone lighthouse.
South West Coast Path
Right outside the chalet brings you straight onto the coastpath. Don't forget your walking boots. The South West Coast Path is a 630 mile (1,014 km) journey along the coastline of England’s southwest peninsula. Running from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset, this England’s National Trails has a wealth of stunning natural scenery, sea views, pretty ports and historic county towns. The Path has won numerous awards and offers a truly unique experience: this is walking at its most challenging and most rewarding.
Twin villages Kingsand & Cawsand
Discovering the Twin Villages of Kingsand & Cawsand Sheltered by the magnificent Rame Peninsular and lapped by the sparkling waters of Plymouth Sound are the idyllic twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. Kingsand-Cawsand Both these shoreside communities are popular anchorages, their sheltered shingle bays and gentle waters adored by beachgoers and watersports enthusiasts. What’s more, it’s the perfect base for all those keen to explore the ocean city of Plymouth, only a short drive away across the Cornish border and over the iconic Tamar Bridge, or across the Sound by ferryboat, famous for its historic Barbican quarter, National Marine Aquarium, Hoe Park and Theatre Royal – so why not enjoy the best of both worlds? cawsand Kingsand Beach Known for its crystal-clear waters and loved by wild swimmers, the shingle sands of Kingsands Bay are among east Cornwall’s finest. Sheltered by Picklecombe Point and backed by a distinctive commemorative clock tower – so often captured being thrashed by stormy seas – this enchanting shore provides a shelved launch for paddleboards and kayaks. It is also a stunning spot to while away a sun-kissed hour or two with a good book – occasionally pausing to admire the breakwaters that shimmer a path all the way to Jennycliff. Recognised by the Marine Conservation Society for its five-star water quality while also operating a seasonal lifeguard patrol, it’s easy to see why so many are falling in love with this lesser-known cove. Dogs are also welcome to run along the strandline until their hearts are content, and there’s a traditional beachside pub to enjoy cold Cornish ciders or a portion of chips with a sea view.

Cliff Top Cafe, Whitsand Bay
Located nearby, you can either walk (roughly 1.5miles) or drive. Sea view cafe at Whitsand Bay serving breakfast, lunches, cake and ice-cream, open 10-4pm
Devonport Inn, Kingsand
Great food for fish lovers and has other great food options. You will need to book in high season and over the half term period. This classic pub/restaurant is right on the Sea front, has an open fire for those cold day and night evenings , it’s also Dog friendly. The Cleave Kingsand, Torpoint, PL10 1NF
The Farriers, Mt Edgcumbe
The Farriers do the best homemade cream teas on the peninsula, they also cater for all dietary requirements, they serve food until 4pm everyday. This is a place not to be missed. Everything homemade. The Halfway Inn, Kingsand
Right in the heart of Kingsand in middle of the twin village of Kingsand & Cawsand is the Halfway pub. With it's own beer garden and great variety of pub classic's.
The Canteen at Maker Heights
If you fancy a bit of breakfast then this is one of my favourite places to go. They also do many other breakfast and lunchtime options if you don’t fancy a full breakfast. They cater for all dietary requirements to. They are open everyday 9.30-4.00 except Mondays.
The Cove, Cawsand
The Cove, offers sweet and savoury treats and cook to order, gourmet take away food. We also stock a selection of Cornish gifts and products. Open Mon-Sun 10am-6.30pm
The Guard House Cafe Bar, Maker Heights
ONSITE EATERY Our on-site eatery is open from 8am every day, serving breakfast until 11:30am, Lunch 12-3pm then drinks and cake until 5pm. THE GUARDHOUSE The Guardhouse is open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights serving Tapas, good wine, spirits and chilled beers. The Guardhouse will be open late on other nights throughout the summer and we will also have some popup guests bringing some culinary colour to the “Barracks Courtyard”

Adventure Bay Surf School, Whitsand Bay
Private or group lessons available, also paddleboarding and coasteering available. Whichever lesson you decide, you’ll receive quality tuition from our experienced surf coaches. After a gentle warm up on the beach, you’ll be shown how to catch waves and get to your feet on the sand before taking to the water to carve up those waves under the supervision of our Surf Lifeguard trained instructors. You’ll leave feeling tired but buzzing and grinning from ear to ear. All equipment including wetsuits and surfboards are complimentary for your use during your lessons. Ladies, please wear swimwear underneath your clothes for ease of changing.

Cawsand Beach
Located 1.5 miles away no dogs between 01/07-31/08 between 10am-6pm, this is the only beach this has this dog rule so still plenty of dog friend beaches along the coast.
Whitsand Bay
The beaches of Whitsand Bay offer over three miles of stunning golden sand stretching from Rame Head west to Portwrinkle, and are considered one of Cornwall’s hidden gems. Reached by steep paths and steps that wind down between the verdant vegetation, Whitsand Bay beaches are never crowded. At low tide the long stretch of glistening sand provides great walking, whilst the consistent swell keeps surfers coming year-round. Rock pools dotted along the beach reveal fascinating marine life, and out to sea the bay is a popular dive site, home to HMS Scylla, an ex-naval frigate sunk in 2004 to form an artificial reef. Dog friendly all year.

Supermarket Shop
If you're planning a larger grocery shop before your arrival, Lidl and Waitrose are your best options, located just off the Saltash Bridge about a 30min drive to the chalet. For those arriving via the Torpoint Ferry, Sainsbury's is just up the hill and is only a 20-minute drive away from the chalet. Additionally, in the nearby village of Millbrook, you'll find a Co-op and a Premier store, both open seven days a week until 10 PM for convenience.
